I was very surprised, and am very happy, to have received the TU/e PhD Thesis Award 2017 on May 17th, 2017. It is a great honor that my PhD thesis was well-received by the jury.

Report of the Jury

Jaron Sanders defended his thesis on 28 January, 2016, within the Mathematics and Computer Science department, resulting in the cum laude judicium. Jaron's work applies a high-level, fundamental theoretical approach to related problems in two disciplines, mathematics and physics, building on the expertise of his simultaneously obtained cum laude MSc degrees in both fields. His PhD work resulted in high-impact publications in prestigious journals in both fields. Furthermore, the relevance of his work for applications ranges from the optimization of cell phone networks to the engineering of quantum systems for computing purposes. The combination of the interdisciplinary nature of the work, Jaron's innovative approaches, thorough fundamental theory and potential impact on society prompted the jury to select his thesis as best PhD thesis of 2016
